Yeah actually, I think your analogy is a very good one...I never thought about it but I think you may be spot on. :)

Re: What are you currently listening to?

Hmm... He changed a lightbulb while he was in the bathtub. The speculation has always been that it was a suicide, rather than an accidental death. He was in the midst of separating from his second wife. But again, it's all speculation - he was somewhere in the vicinity of 38 or 39 years old. His children have carried on the legacy and also sing now.

On a sad note, it was a huge loss of a very young artist. Sometimes, life just doesn't make any sense.

But the lightbulb thing is kinda funny. :) He died in 1978. Who knows why people do the things that they do? :)

:unsure:Yes, it's sad when it happens. Sounds like he left a legacy that his kids have lived up to though so, they are carrying on something he loved.

A very talented man - both in the talented sense and, in the business sense. He literally built an empire for himself.

Is he Canadian? If so that is pretty good. Especially for the time he was living in with less opportunities in music in Canada.

Re: What are you currently listening to?

Ha ha. I thought you made the light bulb thing up. lol  He did have quite the life. I was shocked to know that he wrote "My Way" the Paul Anka re wrote and gave it to Sinatra. I think I read that anyway...I can't concentrate to well, but I'm sure I didn't just make that up...I think...

:)

I don't even like the song, truthfully. I don't know what the original lyrics were but the Paul Anka version was nauseatingly self-aggrandizing... no matter who sings it.

Re: What are you currently listening to?

 ok, I concede. But Claude Francois was the author of many songs that were attributed to Paul Anka and Frank Sinatra...But I won't disagree. :)

Re: What are you currently listening to?

The original was nothing like the revolting Anka/Sinatra version...

Comme d'habitude

Je me l?ve
Et je te bouscule
Tu ne te r?veilles pas
Comme d'habitude
Sur toi je remonte le drap
J'ai peur que tu aies froid
Comme d'habitude
Ma main caresse tes cheveux
Presque malgr? moi
Comme d'habitude
Mais toi tu me tournes le dos
Comme d'habitude

Alors je m'habille tr?s vite
Je sors de la chambre
Comme d'habitude
Tout seul je bois mon caf?
Je suis en retard
Comme d'habitude
Sans bruit je quitte la maison
Tout est gris dehors
Comme d'habitude
J'ai froid je rel?ve mon col
Comme d'habitude

Comme d'habitude
Toute la journ?e
Je vais jouer ? faire semblant
Comme d'habitude
Je vais sourire
Comme d'habitude
Je vais meme rire
Comme d'habitude
Enfin je vais vivre
Comme d'habitude

Et puis le jour s'en ira
Moi je reviendrai
Comme d'habitude
Tu seras sortie
Et pas encore rentr?e
Comme d'habitude
Tout seul j'irai me coucher
Dans ce grand lit froid
Comme d'habitude
Mes larmes je les cacherai
Comme d'habitude

Comme d'habitude
Meme la nuit
Je vais jouer ? faire semblant
Comme d'habitude
Tu rentreras
Comme d'habitude
Je t'attendrai
Comme d'habitude
Tu me souriras
Comme d'habitude

Comme d'habitude
Tu te d?shabillera
Comme d'habitude
Tu te coucheras
Comme d'habitude
On s'embrassera
Comme d'habitude

Google's bad translation:

I rise
And I jostles
You do not wake up
Usual
On you I pulls the sheet
I fear you to be cold
Usual
My hand caresses your hair
Almost despite myself
Usual
But you turn your back on me
Usual

Then I get dressed quickly
I leave the room
Usual
All alone I drink my coffee
I'm late
Usual
Without a sound I leave the house
Everything is gray outside
Usual
I'm cold I raise my neck
Usual

Usual
All day
I'll pretend play
Usual
I will smile
Usual
I will even laugh
Usual
Finally I live
Usual

Then the day will go
I return
Usual
You will exit
Not back yet
Usual
Alone will go to bed
In this big cold bed
Usual
My tears I hide
Usual

Usual
Even at night
I'll pretend play
Usual
You return
Usual
I'll wait
Usual
You smile
Usual

Usual
You undress
Usual
You lie
Usual
They embraced
Usual

And Paul Anka's nauseating version:

And now the end is near
So I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case of which I'm certain

I've lived a life that's full
I've traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exception

I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
Oh, and more, much more than this
I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you know
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fails, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, no not me
I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got
If not himself, then he has not
To say the words he truly feels
And not the words he would reveal
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

Re: What are you currently listening to?

Yes, there's a poetic nature to his lyrics that is just plan lost in the English language...Same with "six jours sur la route" not quite the same in English...
