I am starting the application process to see if I qualify for an assistance dog. The first part is I need to fill out a brief form stating why I think I need an assitance dog and what would duties would he/she do?

Pacific Assisted Dog Association won't give out any more info then that. I am a wheelchair user but its mainly for the PTSD. My trauma counsellor and I are going over the form next week and try to come up with some things.

So my questions: Does anyone here know of anyone who uses an assistance dog? And are any of you aware of what they may be looking for to qualify someone?

I know this may sound like cheating a bit but I usually am shooting myself in the foot by being too independent for my own good. Any suggestions? Thanks. :)

I thought I would put it out there. My therapist and I will be going with me at my worst -PTSD symptoms are at the most severe. But I haven't any info on the net hense the reason for the question. :)

Ladylore,

Though I have no experience with applications for an assistance dog, but I would propose your application should contain as many details in as frank and honest manner as possible.

They need to know the exact nature of the assistance you expect and need without holding back.

You're best strategy is what you have in mind..writing a draft of your application to review with your counsellor who would view it from a different perspective.

It sounds like an interesting project, so please keep us posted on how it goes.
