Is this typical?

Do a lot of people have OCD bipolar combination?Is there a reason why certain mental illnesses skip a generation only to plague only certain parties?
My father was OCD and so am I. So my grandmother , niece and sister were bipolar I and I am cyclothmic. My mother has NO mental illness and my brother is schizophrenic. Is this a mystery or what? I always want to know why me with the OCD and not just be "normal". Anyone ever wonder why you struggle with a certain mental illness? I can't wrap my mind around it!

Schizophrenia is often associated with obessessive-compulsive personality disorder/traits. And relatives often show evidence of OCD, anxiety disorders, or mood disorders.

So it's really not surprising.
