Does self-injury have to be physical? Can it be psychological?

For instance if a person chooses to relive memories that give them emotional pain and stress and do so repeatedly, does that count as self-injury? Or seeking out people who cause you distress, knowing full well what will happen?

I am in the Emotional Regulation module of DBT. On our diary cards we are asked to put down if we have any urges related to suicide ideation and self-harm. If I am reflecting on my previous suicidal thoughts, and painful memories from this past summer, does that count as suicide ideation if there is no intent?

Just questions.

Sounds more like ruminating.
