I have been tired, completely uninspired
I have been dull and dreary, and I feel alone
And tears fill my eyes
But I'm too weak to cry

But hope will be my song
And I will carry on

Re: Quotable Quotes

Brenda said:
I have this one on my living room wall, along with the serenity prayer.

YOU MUST NOT QUIT!

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is strange with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns;
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow;
You may succeed with another blow!

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you never can tell just how close you are;
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit;
When things seem worst, you must not quit.

Thank you for that one..touched home

They are all great.

Measure yourself by your best moments, not by your worst. We are too prone to judge ourselves by our moments of despondency and depression.

Re: Quotable Quotes

I really like this Peter Gabriel song (here is a bit of it):

Rest your head,
You worry too much.
It's going to be alright,
When times get rough
You can fall back on us.
Don't give up,
Please don't give up.

It is important from time to time
to slow down,
to go away by yourself,
and simply Be.

Don't ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive.
And then go do that. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.
- Harold Whitman

The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for.
And the most you can do is live inside that hope.
Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.

Toeless, I love that quote! There's no question that strength is an asset when dealing with the ups and downs of living life. I think people who suffer from depression, and other emotional ailments, should realize that they are really very strong. It's probably one heck of a lot easier to deal with life when one doesn't have a condition that makes doing so even more difficult, eh? We need to pat ourselves on the back from time to time for being able to do what we do and endure. :)

Re: Quotable Quotes

The first time I saw this poem (about 10 years ago) it was written in penicl on an old, worn out piece of paper. A girl I worked with gave it to me and said that her mother, Dawn, wrote it for her when she was having a difficult time dealing with separation. The paper was dated 1980something (1983?) I asked her if it would be ok to post it on the net and she agreed. Many asked if they could copy and keep it. Of course! The premise of sharing, in her words, was "It has served me well, and it should be passed on so that it can do the same for others." Today I see it floating around under different authors, some slightly different then the original, but the meaning is still the same :)

After awhile you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't mean security
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
And presents aren't promises
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child
And learn to build all your roads
On today because tomorrow's ground
Is too uncertain for plans, and futures have
A way of falling down in mid-flight
After awhile, you learn that even sunshine
Burns if you get too much
So you plant your own garden and decorate
Your own soul, instead of waiting
For someone to bring you flowers
And you learn that you really can endure
That you really are strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn and learn
With every goodbye you learn.

Re: Quotable Quotes

Another gem that my therapist recommended. :)

If by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!
