Lately, the lyrics below have been motivating for curtailing negative self-talk:

Drink up baby down
Hmm, are you in or are you out
Leave your things behind
'Cos it's all going off without you

Excuse me too busy
Writing your tragedy
These mishaps you bubble-wrap [my favorite line]
When you've no idea what you're like

So let go, So let go jump in
Oh well what you waiting for
It's alright
'Cos there's beauty in the breakdown

...

Such boundless pleasure
We've no time for later now
You can't await your own arrival
You've twenty seconds to comply

--some lyrics from "Let Go" by Frou Frou

Anyway, the song is fairly popular, and I listen to it a lot when doing chores.

That is truer than true!
There is no one alive
who is you-er than you!
Dr. Seuss

When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when something's suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful.

When I was young, I used to admire intelligent people; as I grow older, I admire kind people.
-Abraham Heschel

How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.
-George Washington Carver

Love the moment. Flowers grow out of dark moments. Therefore, each moment is vital. It affects the whole. Life is a succession of such moments and to live each, is to succeed.

Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work.
It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn't you - all of the expectations, all of the beliefs - and becoming who you are

"I can't go back to yesterday, because I was a different person then".
-Lewis Carroll

This simple concept has helped me more than I can say; although, I didn't know Lewis Caroll said it. I just realized that the person I was is not the person I am, and the person I am is not the person I will be. How can you blame someone for doing something you consider "bad" when that someone no longer exists. All you have to work with is who you are today. The past is gone, and the person you were then has passed with it.

We need not destroy the past. It is gone.
~John Cage

What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now.
~Author Unknown

The one charm of the past is that it is the past.
~Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

Anyone can carry his burden, however hard, until nightfall. Anyone can do his work, however hard, for one day. Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down. And this is all life really means.
~Robert Louis Stevenson

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me.
~Author unknown, variation of an excerpt from "The Serenity Prayer" by Reinhold Neibuhr

Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.
~John Lennon

Every now and then everybody is entitled to too much perfection.
~from the movie Bed of Roses

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing;
the last of the human freedoms,
to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances,
to choose one's own way.
--Viktor Frankl

The best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love.
--William Wordsworth

You can only go halfway into the darkest forest; then you are coming out the other side.

This one is rather like my analogy of bad times or depression: It's not a pit, it's merely a dark tunnel that you must journey through until you emerge back out into the sunlight at the other end.

I want you to remember that proverb, Janet, okay?

I will try to remember that. It is a good analogy and it does help to think of the hard times that way. The pain doesn't last forever even when I'm right in the middle of it. I just have to remember and hold on to that thought.

There is something beautiful about all scars of whatever nature. A scar means the hurt is over, the wound is closed and healed, done with.
~Harry Crews

If we will be quiet and ready enough, we shall find compensation in every disappointment.
~Henry David Thoreau

I bear a little more than I can bear.
~Elinor Hoyt Wylie

The turning point in the process of growing up is when you discover the core of strength within you that survives all hurt.
~Max Lerner

That was rough.... Thing to do now is try and forget it.... I guess I don't quite mean that. It's not a thing you can forget. Maybe not even a thing you want to forget.... Life's like that sometimes... Now and then for no good reason a man can figure out, life will just haul off and knock him flat, slam him agin' the ground so hard it seems like all his insides is busted. But it's not all like that. A lot of it's mighty fine, and you can't afford to waste the good part frettin' about the bad. That makes it all bad.... Sure, I know - sayin' it's one thing and feelin' it's another. But I'll tell you a trick that's sometimes a big help. When you start lookin' around for something good to take the place of the bad, as a general rule you can find it.
~From the movie Old Yeller

If you have a great ambition, take as big a step as possible in the direction of fulfilling it. The step may only be a tiny one, but trust that it may be the largest one possible for now.
-- Mildred McAfee

Be who you are and say what you feel,
because those who mind don't matter,
and those who matter don't mind.
-- Dr. Seuss.

We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone.
-- Loretta Scott.

We are not powerless specks of dust drifting around in the wind, blown by random destiny. We are, each of us, like beautiful snowflakes - unique, and born for a specific reason and purpose.

"This was the lesson I had to learn in three years spent in Auschwitz and Dachau: other things being equal, those apt to survive the camps were those oriented toward the future - toward a task, or a person, waiting for them in the future, toward a meaning to be fulfilled by them in the future."

-- Viktor Frankl

Difficult times have helped me to understand better than before, how infinitely rich and beautiful life is in every way, and that so many things that one goes worrying about are of no importance whatsoever.
