Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) was in effect a precursor to or earlier version of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), although CBT is more widely used now. Both approach certain problems as at least partially the result of faulty or distorted thinking and attempt to help the client to challenge those irrational/distorted thoughts and to replace them with more realistic and less destructive thinking patterns.
