Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Sounds exciting. Are you making cookies for the delivery person? :D

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

I need a gallon of coffee. He can get his own cookies for making me wait. I was up all night. Slept from 11pm to 2am. Got out of bed at 3:00 am and did a real blast in the kitchen and living room. Also some stuff in bedroom. I was hoping he’d get here early so I could see if no damage and let it warm up while I sleep. The other TV is already in the bedroom. Man that thing is heavy and bulky. Took a safety shot of nitro 15 minutes before. Having a bit of angina now. Think I’ll take another now. Worse case scenario I pull out my 25’ hdmi cable to connect computer from living room to bedroom to watch hockey game tonight. Not moving that beast back today!

Staring at an empty wall because if I go to the bedroom or even crash on the couch I’ll never wake up if he ever shows up. I’m about ready to pass out this is really not fun. Got a splitting headache to boot now and miss muffet isn’t around this afternoon otherwise she would have waited here while I got some sleep.

On the 3 positives:
1 - i got my living room cleared before David got his curtains up.
2 - I’m staying positive that my TV will be delivered before I pass out
3 - I’m staying positive that it won’t be DOA, damaged in transport etc.
4 - 2 and 3 are white lies lol. I always assume and expect the worst case scenarios and hope to be totally proven wrong.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Looks great. Coffee kept me up during last-minute night shifts from the diuretic effects alone. And not sitting down for more than 20 minutes helped a lot too.

before David got his curtains up.

I always assumed he lived in complete darkness except for the glow of his computer monitor :D

I always assumed he lived in complete darkness except for the glow of his computer monitor :D

That's probably his cataracts that keep him in the dark

1 - TV arrived at 2pm
2 - NOT DOA
3 - Will need to do some settings adjustments but seems fairly good out of box. For some reason my 1080p movies have better color saturation than 4K DNR. I think I'm blind at that resolution I really can't see the difference. Maybe once night time comes it'll be easier to distinguish. Guess I need to do some reading on tweaking the settings. Only time Google be my friend.

Going to reboot in Hackintosh set PC ready for hockey game scheduled for 6PM. Don't think I'll be watching it "LIVE" Hence the need to have it on the select game webpage to avoid seeing the score before seeing the game.

Nap time now!

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

You can always use it as a living room computer monitor. Most of my interest in 4K is for that reason.

When I was at Target recently, I looked at the 4K TVs and wasn't too impressed either until there were graphics (computer-generated content) on the screen.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1. My husband's friend bought us a nice gift -- a mini fridge to keep our drinks cool outside.

2. Our neighbor fully recovered from his surgery and de-rutted our driveway (with his expensive equipment) for a bargain price.

3. Our chihuahua is already acting more "mature" after his neuter surgery.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Yes Daniel I use my TVs as big @ss monitors

but also for watching movies and hockey games. Had trouble with my Plex media server and streaming HDR movies even through the Roku media player. So I copied onto a usb drive and the 4K HDR movie got its “oomph” back

its not bad for a budget TV. Need to hook up the sound system although I only use it in stereo mode. Haven’t used it or even hooked it up since moving here. Kind of afraid to use it though because even at low volume some movies have quite a dynamic range and the Polk audio speakers I have don’t need a sub woofer setup to rumble.

i was surprised to see that my budget GT 710 cards in my servers actually do 4K 60hz although not HDR. Computer images are nice once tweaked. Way better at night.

EDIT: Figured out how to get my 4K HDR movies working properly with the Plex Roku app on the TV so no need to use an external usb drive. Now I can sleep again.

1 - Montreal Canadiens beat NY Islanders 4-0 last night.

2 Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets both lost

3 - which means Canadiens are now back sitting in the last playoff spot 1 point ahead of Columbus in the East with 8 games to go and only 2 points from the Hurricanes 1st wild card spot but Montreal has 1 game less left to play. And the last 4 or 5 games of the season wil be against the strongest teams.

Bonus: Brendan Gallagher scored his 31st of the year on Tuesday matching his best season (last year) with 9 games left and the possibility of getting more and Carey Price is finally back to playing like the goalie who Won the Olympic Gold medal with Team Canada.

That be them

plus the team that has won 24 Stanley Cups (amost 1 in 4)

only the New York Yankees (baseball) have won more championship titles in pro sports than My Habs

I’m waiting for them to win the next one to get the logo tattooed on my chest with the number 25! :)

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1. Did an offline gratitude exercise: Sent my last two therapists a thank you card.

2. Now we have pizza delivery available in our area! We are moving up in the world! (not that we will use it much if ever)

3. My group project is going better now. It is also helpful for learning the "scoop" on different professors/courses.

1. Got an awesome pot of spring flowers arranged with other plants at Lowes.
2. Got free pizza.
3. One of my dogs was finally semi-relaxed this time at the vet for her nail trim, including the whole trip to the vet. (The dogs share an ice cream cone afterwards.)

When I first read this, I saw "pizza" and then "dogs" and at first I assumed you meant hot dogs. :D

BONUS: The V.A. pays 100% of the cost of hearing aids. My 59-year-old husband needs hearing aids already, and the V.A. is paying about $7,000 for a top-of-the-line model that also syncs to one's mobile phone.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Extra Bonus: Did not cost a fortune to take my dog to the vet for a limp. No x-rays necessary. (Just the exam fee and $25 for NSAID medication.)

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. Feeling slightly less miserable now that I'm interacting with people at work. Just have to try to stay out of anyone else's complaining sessions.
  2. Tomorrow is Tuesday so I'll be able to call the therapist's receptionist to book an appointment. It'll also be a week since I'd emailed the therapist with a question which he hasn't replied to yet (when he said he'd reply and I didn't think it was a hard question but given that he only does 2 days clinical work a week I'll just have to be ok/patient with that)... But I've decided I can book independent of his replying schedule.
  3. Hoping to be able to handball some work today onto someone with more technical expertise and make use of the fact that he's been put into our team temporarily but hasn't done anything useful for us yet. This is the number one reason I didn't call in sick today so I'm keen for this to happen.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Handball complete. :)

Oh and bonus:
4. I went for a ride around the block on my fixed gear bike (not the one I ride with normally, which after riding around the block last time resulted in a sore knee) yesterday arvo and my knee was only very mildly sore which could just be my imagination. So I have a plan to work up to a slightly longer ride during the week on that bike.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1 - Been silent here lately (I guess that's a positive for some )

2 - Did a blast of work last couple days. The majority of the productive work was done yesterday. Took me almost 12 hours to do what used to take me a couple hours at work.
Installed new phone line wall plate and jack and fixed the hillbilly wiring I discovered behind it. Also ran a Cat5e cable (neatly tucked under the rubber baseboard) then across to the bedroom and installed a baseboard jack to relocate ADSL Modem in bedroom with Data/Media Server and Switch. Took me forever to make cables and wire them to RJ45 plugs to run though the wall for network (save you the rest of the details there regarding the fact I had to cut out the holes with a utility knife since I could not find my drywall saw or my drywall electric cut-out tool)

Nice new Wall jack and cable (neatly tucked under baseboard)

IMG_0983.JPG

Wired 4 Port plate behind TV (connects to identical setup on other side of wall in bedroom)
You can see where the wiring from the phone line goes through the wall just above the baseboard below the Network plate (Baseboard jack is installed on other side of wall)

3 - FINALLY fixed broken center leg under TV stand. (Had glued it months ago) Then installed the furniture coasters I bought (also months ago) to be able to slide TV stand on carpet. Set everything up including my sound system (Except I need to change the speaker wiring I connected to B instead of A not really important but still - at least I can slide TV stand easily now to do it) Living room was cleared of bins a couple weeks ago so about 75% done in living room of what I want to do.

IMG_0988.JPG

BONUS: After moving the big TV to the bedroom weeks ago to out new 4K TV in living room and having cleared out the corner (it's a cut-out, same depth as closet, where closet ends) I moved the dresser and the big *ss TV to that corner and relocated the server, UPS (battery backup), modem, switch etc and got everything up and working by around 11PM.
My neck, back and legs hurt like hell since about noon yesterday but I figured that if I stopped, everything would be down until I was able to move properly again so I kept at it until the important stuff was completed. I'm really paying the price for it today though.

(Sorry for the crappy pic - lighting was off I guess)
IMG_0989.JPG

DOUBLE BONUS: Started getting eggs from the neighbor lately (2$ a dozen) Was awake at 5 and had to go pay rent at 9 so I decided around 8 to fire up the Instant Pot and hard boil 18 eggs that after being peeled made there way to a jar (minus the one that I had to test) then filled with boiling vinegar/water/salt.
Yessiree! My second batch of pickled eggs. Don't tell my cardiologist!!!!

Aren't they just the prettiest things?

IMG_0990.JPG

P.S. The fun will start if and when I have to explain why I have a 58" TV in the bedroom and only a 55" and not vice-versa.
