Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. On the weekend my brother sent me a link to a temporarily free xtreme sports PC game (Steep). I was looking for a good snowboarding game a few months ago but gave up the search when they all cost more than I wanted to pay. Given that I've been out of the gaming scene for ages I don't care that it's an older game. Keen to check this one out once I can download it.
  2. I replied to a coworker's email to get his thing done... Even though it meant I missed the bus (which must have been a classic few minutes early because I was out here with 1 minute to spare) and am now being eaten by bugs. But my email had a very poor joke in it so I guess that's worth the half hour wait. Maybe. Not really.
  3. Yesterday I downloaded a different game, Stories Untold, which is a puzzle text-based/first person horror game. It seems to be broken into 4 short stories so I played the first one yesterday and it was quite scary  Glad I wasn't playing at night.

Bonus - a spare AA battery from 2015 still has enough charge to power my bluetooth mouse when the existing battery ran out of juice.
Anti-bonus - there goes another 2 hours of my day spent on fruitless calculations, this time trying to figure out what on earth a junior engineer is trying to do in his report. No closer to figuring it out so I'll be asking him tomorrow.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. Found out where my replacement part is. (Negative - it's in Germany).
  2. Had a chat with the junior engineer to explain his calcs. Let him know that he needed to put in some more explanation and a diagram, but otherwise makes sense now that he's explained what he's doing and why - explain your assumptions plzkthx. :)
  3. Might be seeing a movie tonight with my cousin, although there doesn't seem to be much on at this cinema and I don't know if we have the same taste in movies. To be confirmed.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

If my replacement part is chilling out in Europe while I'm doing work I don't want to do, does that make me the replacement part?! :panic:

Yes I think so. Somehow, your replacement part was sent on vacation to Germany leaving you at work. It should have been the other way round.

Your best bet now is to blame both the junior engineer and the new boss and let them fight it out while you call in sick to play video games. :coffee:

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. Handled most of my email anxiety and contacted the people I needed to contact to coordinate a supply issue for work. Way more emailing than is comfortable though, and I put off a couple for the future.
  2. Have already done my hours for the week but will be going in tomorrow so will probably do 7hrs unpaid overtime this week which makes me feel a bit better about how useless and unable/unwilling to concentrate I've been lately.
  3. My bus this afternoon got a rock flicked into the windscreen and we had to wait for a replacement bus, but the positive is that it didn't shatter. And I don't have any connecting transport to catch so waiting didn't cause me any drama.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. The network is down again at work this morning so I'm going to do some stretches beside my desk while I wait.
  2. Got a training meeting today so won't have to do real work for 2 hrs (plus waiting for network time).
  3. It's Friday.

2. Husband replaced old stairs on the patio.

3. 5 new trees planted and we are planting more. Got free saplings from a neighbor.

 These drones are used for when you're away from home, need to turn on your washing machine, but don't have an automatic timer. ;)

Bonus bonus - My "2 @" key on my computer keyboard works now!!! :D

I was playing the 2nd chapter of the Stories Untold game and it required pressing 2 (not using the numpad). For those who don't remember, due to keyboard damage I'd previously remapped my 2 to the right shift, rendering "2 @" completely unavailable. I don't know why I picked right shift but was then too lazy to change it to something where I could actually get a "2 @".

So to progress in the game I needed to try and remap it so that it would actually work. I tried a couple of options but couldn't figure out how to block the function of the sacrificial key and overwrite it with the function of the "2 @" key. I'd made a bit of a mess of it so removed all my remappings to start from scratch. Then just to confirm that everything was removed I pressed the "2 @" key... And it worked! No more ".2.2.2.2...2....2"-ing for me! :D

I don't know how it resolved itself (I thought it was water damaged and/or corroded beyond use), but I don't care now that it's working. :)

That white thing you're using for scale... is it a Tic Tac mint? or an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper? or a tissue dispenser?

Wow, those drones are getting smaller and smaller :coffee:

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

I actually don't know what the white thing is, and as soon as I took the pic I realised its presence might be a problem. I'm betting it's either miscellaneous garbage, or an ancient moth scroll of wisdom.

Here is another pic for scale against regular sized bricks:

And in case anyone besides me was wondering if I still had a gecko living behind my aircon unit, here's what I woke up to (please imagine your own dramatic music as it zooms in to the offending tail):

Ah ha. So that must be the famous Moses moth bringing the Ten Moth Commandments done from the mount, one tablet at a time. :coffee:

1 -2 -3 -Got my new vaping mods in the mail today. Don't think it's very old stock since the sealed boxed batteries indicated a full charge.

Bit bigger than I expected. One to the right is my 3 year old 40W. The brass colored button at the top of my old one was actually chome plated. it shows signs of wear and was way over due. They are 80W and with a 5000mAh integrated battery. So twice the power and twice the reserve. *Some people prefer replaceable batteries I prefer sealed and less risk of damage to the physical battery pulling it in and out to the charger everyday. Lithium ion or polymer batteries are safe but dangerous if not properly cared for. These can go 2 days on a charge and at a decent uasge rate. USB charger. Most online shops in Canada have them listed at 60$ +tax I got them with a 10% off at under 43$ each with the tax included and free shipping.
