Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

 oh that's sad and funny at the same time.

My English friend and her son cooked the old english way... They used their nose not a timer... put it in the oven and when I'd say: "T - What you burning for supper?" cause I could smell something about to burst into flames. He'd bolt to the kitchen and say "supper's ready"

My mum cooks steak like that. As a kid I always thought it was a choice between well done and burnt. Burnt tasted better because it crisped up rather than just being dry, tough and chewy.

Oh you guys are gonna make me cry.

But maybe if I didn't spend most of my adult life around delicious well prepared, I want more, more food, I probably wouldn't have eaten my way to all these heart problems

THat might explain why you find Vegemite tastes good if you survived growing up on "rubber roo"

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

What exactly is the advantage of an instant pot? Like what does it do that stovetop or oven can't and why might I want one?

My husband isn't a big fan of it since he likes to season as he goes. But to add to Gary's answer: I like anything where you just have to press one button and you are done -- no stirring, no monitoring, no worries about anything boiling over while you are looking at cat memes.

For many/most recipes, you can do the same thing in a slow cooker, but slow cookers are almost un-American in their slowness and consequent need for pre-planning. With the Instant Pot, it will cook a "set-it-and-forget-it" meal within 40 minutes or so as opposed to hours and hours.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1. Busy 5-week summer semester to help keep me from OCD land (existential anxiety, etc).

2. I got the super-nice vet yesterday (when I brought my 8-year-old cat to the low-cost clinic for vaccines, senior bloodwork, etc.)

3. The two roosters still crack me up. (They act like I gave them a million dollars each time they get treats. They are so excited they almost have to calm down before they eat.)

But then the wifi coffee maker would have no other device to talk to

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. Had a quick walk to catch a pokemon in the afternoon so I warmed up a bit (this weather is already too cold for me when staying indoors), and don't have to go out again tonight.
  2. Removed one tiny wasp nest without getting stung (certainly some buzzing and frantic air swatting). Only two to go.
  3. Started reading a book this morning.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. Trying to come up with 3 positives in the hope that it'll help.
  2. It's sunny today.
  3. There's every reason to get up, get changed, get keys, wallet, headphones, phone and de-wasp-nesting-implement, get rid of the 2 nests in one go, then quickly head down the stairs and out for a walk in the sun, maybe get some groceries so I don't have to go back out later, and return when any live wasps have found alternate activities.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1. Husband is coming back from Phoenix after being gone for days to visit his sister in the ICU.
2. The miracle of modern medicine: His 71-year-old sister is doing much better today.
3. Found a beautiful dutch oven to give to my niece-in-law for her birthday. (Was going to get her an "Instant Pot," but she needs something to deep fry.)

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Would this be another one of your "MacGyver styled" engineering exploits? If so, pics are a necessity you know ;)
 Unfortunately not. Just couldn't think of the name for the wide filling spatula that was wide enough to scrape off both nests in a single scrape. Mission accomplished, and one of the nests had an egg sheath thingy inside it so that's one less wasp coming into the world.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1 - slept a lot since yesterday. tylenol not really working but clonazepam helping me sleep some which helps. less than 2 days before the tooth and everything around it gets cannibalized. Can't wait for the pain to stop but I know that it will be a lot worse after the procedure until it heals up enough to be safe since my viable chewing are is already very limited.

2 - I was not woken up by the pain or anyone ringing my doorbell or phone since yesterday. Phone was easy to make sure it didn't ring again.
Yesterday 5 am I was not happy when I was woken up by the pain after less than 2 hours sleep. But coming back to the room after a bladder call to see that ugly fat spider crawling up my bed the anger turned to a painful )
especially for it)
blessing when it took me 3 tries to beat the living daylights out of it with my running shoe. Payback for scaring the crap out of me and for it's bold attempt at scaling my box bed. Bugger almost got away after I wacked it on the box spring.

3 - Since my joyful visit to the dentist yesterday "only" cost me $77.90 and not $80.53 I managed to finish the month of May under budget by a whopping $2.63. The dentist will ensure that doesn't have the possibility of happening in June (I already have the cost estimate so it's not an if ) when I leave the accounts payable desk an Monday. Filling up the car with gas early rather that last trip to Winnipeg kind of distorted the real facts LOL. Helping me finish the month under rather than over budget.

Bonus (attempt): Don't know if it's just radiating pain but the top back tooth above the one that needs to be extracted has been giving me grief also. The assistant did mention I had a cavity there. Will see if I can use my negotiating (and begging) skills to try and convince him to check it and use that x-ray that happily appears along with the other tooth to try and save the exam fees for it and that way I could potentially get it fixed this month. After all he'll be there with the same x-rays and it's just above where he'll be excavating. Of course that's if I can pull off the compassion attempt before he starts ripping my mouth apart to get the molar out.

Somehow I can't picture a dutch oven as a deep fryer
Wouldn't an electric deep fryer been a better and safer option?
