Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Somehow I can't picture a dutch oven as a deep fryer
Wouldn't an electric deep fryer been a better and safer option?

Didn't think of that, but mostly going for versatility since she also needs it to roast in the oven. I can get her the deep fryer for Christmas :D

BONUS: Same niece gave me her fancy coffee maker that makes iced coffee too (since she just bought a new one that has more buttons or whatever).

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1 - slept a lot since yesterday. tylenol not really working but clonazepam helping me sleep some which helps. less than 2 days before the tooth and everything around it gets cannibalized. Can't wait for the pain to stop but I know that it will be a lot worse after the procedure until it heals up enough to be safe since my viable chewing are is already very limited.

2 - I was not woken up by the pain or anyone ringing my doorbell or phone since yesterday. Phone was easy to make sure it didn't ring again.
Yesterday 5 am I was not happy when I was woken up by the pain after less than 2 hours sleep. But coming back to the room after a bladder call to see that ugly fat spider crawling up my bed the anger turned to a painful )
especially for it)
blessing when it took me 3 tries to beat the living daylights out of it with my running shoe. Payback for scaring the crap out of me and for it's bold attempt at scaling my box bed. Bugger almost got away after I wacked it on the box spring.

3 - Since my joyful visit to the dentist yesterday "only" cost me $77.90 and not $80.53 I managed to finish the month of May under budget by a whopping $2.63. The dentist will ensure that doesn't have the possibility of happening in June (I already have the cost estimate so it's not an if ) when I leave the accounts payable desk an Monday. Filling up the car with gas early rather that last trip to Winnipeg kind of distorted the real facts LOL. Helping me finish the month under rather than over budget.

Bonus (attempt): Don't know if it's just radiating pain but the top back tooth above the one that needs to be extracted has been giving me grief also. The assistant did mention I had a cavity there. Will see if I can use my negotiating (and begging) skills to try and convince him to check it and use that x-ray that happily appears along with the other tooth to try and save the exam fees for it and that way I could potentially get it fixed this month. After all he'll be there with the same x-rays and it's just above where he'll be excavating. Of course that's if I can pull off the compassion attempt before he starts ripping my mouth apart to get the molar out.

BTW, dental prices are so high for certain things like implants that a number of people in Arizona -- including working professionals that make good money -- go to Mexico for dental work. A molar dental implant w/ crown in the U.S. can cost $5,000 USD if you don't shop around. And that's just for one tooth. So obviously many/most people don't even get the implant in the first place -- even with less-expensive dentists or dental schools or dentists who take payments.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

I noticed that, for several months, I started to get wicked vertigo and my hearing felt like I was under water. I tried OTC allergy meds, cold medication... No relief.

I then went to a medi-clinic and the doctor examining said there was no wax buildup in my ear, and told me to just let this thing take its course. I was like, whatever. I’ve been waiting for months already!

I had booked an appointment to see my own doctor and HE said there WAS wax buildup. He suggested I purchase a kit.

I went and bought one of those wax removal kits and, oh, there was wax. Lots of wax. And I could finally hear. And then I got an ear ache because I cleaned out too much wax... *sigh*

But the vertigo was still present. So annoying! Every time I bent forward, changed direction, etc it felt like I had loose ball bearings in my head. Sometimes I’d feel like I was falling over. Sometimes I grabbed something or leaned/pushed against a wall. Perhaps my co-workers suspected I had started a drinking habit. lol

And then my hearing got all “underwater” again, although not quite as bad this time.

Then I noticed one of my teeth was getting a bit more sensitive. I thought it was odd because I couldn’t quite tell which one... And then this weird bubble appeared on my gums above my tooth. Then I knew to call the dentist because that can’t be good, right?!?

Turns out the tooth behind my top left eyetooth was dead! I’m not sure how or when it happened, maybe I bit down on something hard unexpectedly. The bubble was the infection. So I got a root canal, and the plan was to get it filled later.

I guess I waited a bit too long because at some point my dog accidentally head-butted me in the mouth and I felt a POP when the tooth cracked. And then I accidentally bit down on something and that’s when I felt it completely give way. So then I had to have the tooth pulled.

Well, guess what!? After the tooth came out: NO MORE VERTIGO! lol

Maybe the tooth was pushing up on a nerve!? Or maybe the infection was pushing up on a nerve?!

But my benefits don’t cover enough of the cost for an implant. Which is stupid! [emoji35] I don’t really want to take out another tooth to make a bridge. I feel like a hobo! [emoji3525]

But, hey! At least I could hear and not tip over anymore! lol

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1 - after watching the movie last night i took a sip of my drink and the pain instantly shot in to a 20 on a scale of 1 to 10 in the tooth department and I could feel my normal angina combining that radiates up my right neck and other symptoms of high blood pressure. Took 2mg Clonazepam 2 Tylenol and a shot of nitro. No progress in panic Anxiety also to the roof. Had 2 Choices pop all my pills (FMN, bless her caring heart, would have reamed me out for even just thinking about it never mind doing it) or go to ER. Heard bad stories about Steinbach ER so called Sté-Anne (pretty much same distance) but no doctor overnight so called And went to Steinbach. My blood pressure was to the roof as expected. Was a bit Leary driving after taking 2 mg clonazepam but was not really working so I put myself in alert mode and went being overly cautious.

2 - got there around 3:30. The staff was kind and compassionate. Even tolerant of my anxious over blabbering. Got into a room a bit after 4 and gooblax made me laugh to lighten the wait time. Saw doc at 5:15. Had expressed my bad experience of being treated as just wanting narcotics when my sciatic nerve was injured being one reason I didn’t go earlier. He wanted to put me on cardiac monitoring protocol but I explained my knowledge and 18 years of experience. The angina had subsided and the pain a bit and just needed something to hold me off till the tooth came out. Also asked if I could take it home for logical driving safety reasons. Nurse brought me antibiotic and 2 pills forget the name cortisone anti inflammatory stuff. Took those. She also gave me a bottle with 8 T3’s and an Rx for them and the Antibiotics.

3 - steinbach pretty much all closed on Sunday except churches and a few places like McJunk (Mennonite Bible Belt central) as I stated before even WallyWorld is closed. So I asked where I could get this filled today. Nurse went to find out and came back with another bottle with 3 AMOXIL 500mg to hold me till tomorrow with the one I had already taken. That was awesome and so helpful. Technically good to last till I go to dentist so don’t need to make 2 trips in. There’s a Sobey’s literally across the corridor from the dental clinic. WAlk into the mall main entrance and clinic first door on right and sobey’s literally across on the left. Will call to make sure if I drop it off before going to get butchered that it can be guaranteed ready to pick up right after because I’ll be due for both my pain killers and my antibiotic when I get out. And I’ll be in a “get home to bed ASAP after the dentist.

Bonus:needed :coffee: bad when I got home. What was now a more tolerable pain shot back to 20 after the first gulp. Damn sugar! So suffered for over an hour made one with no sugar (that a 10 on 10 on the taste painful scale but I need my caffeine fix so have to suck up horrible coffee which is awful but better that the pain just s bit of sugar can induce. Thankfully it’s only for a couple days.

P.S. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and support. Here and in my private posts. You guys are a really awesome bunch. (when I say guys it means the ladies too it’s not gender specific or biased just easier and shorter to type)

and the think the weakest of us all is the one acting as moderator. What has the world become? :D

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Well good for you getting over there to ER and getting the support you needed and the meds you needed to keep pain at level you can tolerate.

Ya hard when you need caffeine but it only causes pain when you drink it yikes. Try using a straw when drinking your coffee that way you can aim the coffee away from the tooth more it helps a bit.

You are smart to have everything waiting for you after the surgical procedure just run in get meds and get home like you said. Hope all goes well tomorrow try to get rested up good tonight wish you had someone to drive you tomorrow but i know you will keep yourself safe. take care ok.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Will do! only have enough T3 till tomorrow mornings so might take them at 8 rather than at 6 pretty sure by 3 the pain will be ready to get frozen. and only 1mg clonazepam 1 hour before heading out to calm the anxiety.

Safety first! Especially that of others when I’m driving.

Is it possible this one time to and from the dental clinic for you to take a taxi? Or is it so far away that it would be too expensive? How do you feel about at least taking paratransit to the dentist and then a cab home? Or paratransit both ways, it’s just that sometimes when it’s busy or low staff, paratransit isn’t exactly punctual. So if you called and told them to try to get to your home an hour early, or asked them what wait times are like/how busy they are at certain times of day, that might give you a better idea of how early you want to get picked up...

Also, say WHAT? Did you see a dentist/doctor before now and they didn’t give you an antibiotic or pain management meds!? Or was it just because before you went to the ER you hadn’t seen anyone yet?

Also, I hope the antibiotic helps very soon. Pain killers can kick down the pain, obviously, but if you don’t have antibiotics, the infection still keeps swelling or spreading.

This is a weird question, probably: if your tooth can’t handle hot coffee, would it help your tooth/the swelling to have iced coffee? Or if you got stevia, used honey, or something like Nutrasweet (or whatever fake sugar product you use)? Or are you like me and prefer not to put fake things into your body? lol

Or does your tooth hate anything & everything sweet?

Feel better soon! [emoji40][emoji850][emoji1786]

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Well someone has a lot of questions today (Just teasing)

Is it possible this one time to and from the dental clinic for you to take a taxi?
Taxi service here is bumming a ride or paying someone to take you. No options for me that I would be able to rely on and T3's arent that powerful and wear off quickly. ALso if I don't think I need 2 will only take 1 and it'll be pretty much worn off by the time I leave so the driving risks are pretty much the same as everyday driving. Also I always take 1 mg clonazepam when I hit the road. I've been in it for years now so the tolerance level has built up. it just takes the edge off the anxiety. Also I tend to go into hyper alert mode by default and the drive there is pull out of driveway about 100 meters in the 311 and then a 7 km provincial double lane highway straight to the mall which is before driving into Steinbach. Navigating the mall parking lot is the toughest part. Watching out for pedestrians and crazy drivers.
Or is it so far away that it would be too expensive? How do you feel about at least taking paratransit to the dentist and then a cab home?
In Manitoba it's called HandiTransit and it's not available in rural areas.

Also, say WHAT? Did you see a dentist/doctor before now and they didn’t give you an antibiotic or pain management meds!? Or was it just because before you went to the ER you hadn’t seen anyone yet?
Yes, went to dentist to have tooth assessed Friday at 10AM after 2 days of pain. (I'm quite vocal they knew I was in pain. Assistant who did all the work was sweet. Dentists came in and said "Can't do it until at least Monday. Root canal or Odontectomy, surgical flap." (That's cutting the soft tissue revealing the bone and grinding it away to make removing the tooth easier and technically more pain during healing and potential other compliactions. The more you expose to air and trauma the more risks of post procedure complications and subsequent healing times which usually means PAIN) But he said that was a possibility giving me the highest quote price. Might just be a normal traumatic "rip her out" procedure depending on the real work necessary and the dentist's financial greed or lack of. Find out in roughly 21hours. What I haven't been able to find is information as to why he would prefer this method to a simple normal extraction because for one this tooth doesn't have any on either side of it and everything I've read is about the procedure being done to remove impacted teeth. That's teeth growing sideways, inwards or teeth not protruding past the gum lines. Seems to be very common with wisdom teeth. Second thing to inquire about after "Why didn't you give me an Rx for the pain and antibiotics making me have to do an emergency visit to the ER in excruciating pain? Not cool Doc!. Of course raised in a very tactful and delicate manner cause after all if I p*ss this dude off before he starts hacking away at my mouth it might be painfully costly in both physical and financial terms!

Also, I hope the antibiotic helps very soon. Pain killers can kick down the pain, obviously, but if you don’t have antibiotics, the infection still keeps swelling or spreading.
Doesn't seem to be infected. The gum is only tender if I rub it against the rough edge of the tooth since it is slightly higher than the lower edge of the hole in my tooth. I think the ER doctor was smart enough to reduce any possibility of it getting infected. Which just like a toothache can happen very very fast and suddenly. Prevention goes a long way compared to reactionary treatment.

This is a weird question, probably: if your tooth can’t handle hot coffee, would it help your tooth/the swelling to have iced coffee?
I have a coffee maker that has a holding tank rather than a carafe. Only the first cup is hot and fresh and I use milk. Then I turn it off. Doesn't stay as fresh but it doesn't dehydrate like a normal coffee maker. Just add sugar and nuke for 1 & 1/2 minutes then add milk. Once the pain subsided from the morning cup swig I threw it out and tried without sugar and no pain. Awful taste when you've always taken it with sugar but that's nowhere near as horrible as the pain it induced!

Or if you got stevia, used honey, or something like Nutrasweet (or whatever fake sugar product you use)? Or are you like me and prefer not to put fake things into your body? lol
No honey and don't use sweeteners so couldn't say and no desire to try it. Might try my next cup (will be soon since I had an awesome painless and uninterrupted sleep like a baby till about 3pm, no pain when I woke up and no pain since) with maybe just a bit of sugar. See if it can be tolerable with the T3s apparently working well.

Or does your tooth hate anything & everything sweet?

Seems intensely since yesterday. Will find out very soon. Will try a :coffee: with just a little sugar. Will have a glass of warm water with a lot of salt ready to go just in case. If the trial causes any pain I'm doing a repeated rinse and then thankfully I have some Sensodyne toothpaste and took my 2 T3's around 3 after waking up. So they should still be in prime helping mode. Sometimes little things we remind others that seem common sense are totally forgotten and @Daniel posting about toothache helpers reminded me of salt water rinse and Sensodyne. Didn't ease the pain at that moment but was a great reminder that can be of help.

Feel better soon"
Thanks

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Yes. I tend to ask many questions instead of provide empathy/encouragement, but either means I care. I am working on providing empathy/encouragement over The Spanish Inquisition.

I know it can be annoying when one is hit with multiple 3rd degree questions when in pain, but I still forget that sometimes.

I’m glad to hear you got some awesome/painless sleep! Yay!

NOOOOO salt water rinse put me through the roof with pain noooo

Sensodyne toothpaste works my dentist told me to rub into tooth and leave it on so it works don't rinse it off.

If you get to your appointment earlier tomorrow maybe then can fit you in sooner i hope so.

Haha, I'm fine with it and I can easily detect that it's your way of showing you care and are the curious type.

It's probably a lot more painful for the others that look and see my unending play by play detailed questions. I bet when they saw your slew of questions some probably went "OH no! What has this woman started. He'll be writing a novel again :panic:"

Maybe it can helpful to rinse out whatever gets inside open deep cavities. It's pretty deep and salt is a good disinfectant.

Let's hope the pain stays under control and that I have no need for anything else than brushing and T3s. Will find out soon enough since I haven't eaten anything yet today.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Ya i understand the salt rinses are for keeping the infection down but im just saying it was very intense pain i did not try it again lol. I am glad you are on antibiotic it will help with surgery. Maybe after surgery it would hurt less to do salt water rinses.

1 - Baked and ate box of Beer battered fish sticks.
Weird chewing (more like mushing) on the side you have no teeth after being forced to eat on the other side for years because of it. Hence why I opted for softer happy greasy food. Forgot to oil up the tin foil though and well you know what happens when you try to turn them at the time they say  Got one of those cool Gotham Steel ceramic-titanium crisper tray kits but my desire to pile up more Dishes I haven't washed there. Pulled out the tinfoil and the pizza pan.

2 - Made a pot of coffee and a BIG mug of coffee with about a teaspoon of sugar and 100lbs of mixed excitement and fear after what happened earlier overnight and this morning.

3 - So far no pain although the anxiety/angina might be creeping up a bit on the jaw area. Fear of fear.

Bonus: will try to postpone and T3s tonight till 11 or midnight if possible. Take the antibiotic at 11 since I took last one an hour late at 3pm

P.S. think I'll go brush my teeth now to get anything that could have gotten in the hole out if possible.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Did you use warm water or cold? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Warm is better, of course. Teeth are body temperature, so as close to that temperature as possible would be best. You probably knew that.

I really like that Sensodyne idea! I hope your tooth calms down, FMN! [emoji3590]

  1. The funniest thing happened at work today, but due to the amount of back story required it's not really going to be funny to anyone outside of my work team. You'll just have to trust me that it was funny. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so much.
  2. Treated myself to a new pair of work pants yesterday and wore them today.
  3. Going to have steak and chips for dinner tonight.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Thanks FMN and thanks for the sensodyne rub tip. Been awake since 5. I'm actually pretty calm this morning although I would have appreciated a bit more sleep.

BTW the coffee with a tsp and/or the fish sticks did finally trigger pain like the one that brought me to the ER. Brushed teeth, did a full and exhaustive salt water rinse to make sure that hole was clear of any debris then did your trick of rubbing sensodyne on the tooth and gum. assuming some got inside the hole too. Then it resolved and I took my pain meds on schedule rather than delaying it. Maybe lasted an hour in all. So nowhere as long as the previous days.

Feeling brave to try a 1/2 teaspoon and try to take small sips tilting my head to the other side. Was die at 6 to take my pills will take them now feeling a but of discomfort now. Mostly the gum line where it touches the eroded tooth. maybe a bit of sensodyne rub o the gum too before the coffee. Except need my :coffee: really bad.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1 - Finally reached the receptionist at the Skin care Centre and yes the doc I was referred to see is an internal specialist and just started renting an office there part time. So she is just starting to take patients hence my luck. I doubt she'll be any more helpful than all the other slew of specialists and cooks I've had the pleasure to deal with but I am keeping an open mind. (Have no choice) Just glad it's not in a hospital or downtown.

2 - The guy who has taken care of topping up my car A/C last 2 years (50$) said he would try and do everything to fit me in somewhere on Thursday to accommodate me since I'm out of town now and he's a god guy. Has a commercial mobile service and does some jobs at home. It's going to be a hot week to drive around without A/C working and usually a few degrees celcius hotter in Winnipeg than here. Our forecast is going to he hard on my ticker if he can't fix it Thursday

Capture.PNG

3 - Tooth is in pain
but not to bad.
I think I inadvertently put my normal amount of sugar in my coffee by habit but stuffed some Sensodyne toothpaste a couple times as best I could in the hole to try and keep the sugar away from the nerve as much as possible. 5 hours more or less before I get to go on the butcher's block. Could have dumped the coffee but it tastes so good. Will do a good flush brush and sensodyne rub after. Next coffee no sugar for sure!
