Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. My day greatly improved after a while.
  2. Stayed somewhat focused at work following an info trail that actually led somewhere useful.
  3. My latest uninvited house guest wouldn't tell me their name so I've named them(him?) Fred. He's tiny and I hope he doesn't get in trouble with the much larger one (Lucy) that lives in the aircon unit.

If that worries you, @GaryQ, stay away from southern Florida They have little lizards like that everywhere.

Gooblax: the “what the...” had more to do with the fact it was uninvited yet tolerated and even named! Oh, and has a bigger version already living in the Air Conditioner!!!! :panic:

David: thanks for the info. I’ll add that on to my list of reasons to avoid Florida, after; too damn hot, too damn humid, too many damn alligators, too many really big damn alligators and too many damn Canadian snowbirds.

The only place South and hot I’m going every year is outside in Southern Manitoba Summertime :)

The few uninvited guests I get are generally eliminated by a regular Raid spray barrier or after a visual spotting get sprayed, stomped or eliminated by any means possible and available. Yes, that literally means if it was a hammer I had in hand when I saw a spider I might have to do some drywall patching after. Shoot first think after. I enforce strict boundary rules when it comes to my home.

Don’t get me wrong I am fine with those that pick up and cradle spiders and thing and gently release them back outside or even tolerate them indoors. Just I have a zero tolerance policy when something has the possibility of crawling on me especially while I’m in my bed.

Ah right. Well geckoes are pretty harmless and eat bugs. I'm not going to be able to eliminate everything coming inside so might as well at least have guests that are participating in some sort of upkeep ;)
I always temporarily name the "guests" that I'm not going to remove. Often they're daddy longlegs spiders, but sometimes geckoes. :D

Lucy is camera shy. I deleted a photo of her a week ago because she was just a blur behind a curtain. But she's a full sized one, whereas Fred's just a baby.

Haha I can't say I've ever noticed any of my guests joining me in bed!

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1 Quick surface scan did not reveal the presence of any geckos or anything that crawls that they might enjoy having as a snack in me casa

2 I’m glad my issues and phobias are more about dealing with insects than humans because I can spray insects without going to jail

3 it’s cold and snowy outside but me and my car both don’t have to be outside today or if so desired any day before next Monday

Bonus: I’m glad the geckos are crashing at gooblax’s Place and not mine ;)

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

At least in Florida, the small lizards that sometimes get into people's homes often die sooner than later from dehydration. (A biology professor once suggested I leave cotton balls soaked with water in the house until I could catch the lizard. But it did not seem to help, or I did not leave enough.)

When I got a cat, the lizard issue went away.

Dogs get easily distracted though and it doesn't take much so the visitor gets to stay longer. Cats can be very focused and patient predators.

But after seeing this video I think some mice are pretty smart...

Diaper-wearing house chickens are another option as well.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

I've seen a cockroach play dead like that... That's all we need, intelligent roaches that can also sort of survive a nuclear blast and survive a week without a head. :panic: (Roach claims have not been fact checked.)

  1. Just booked to see Elton John at the end of the year. Will be the 2nd concert I've ever been to (1st one being Weird Al).
  2. It had stopped raining heavily by the time I left to catch the bus. No need for the change of clothes.
  3. Going to put away the phone after this and really try to stay focused on work for the rest of the morning.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1. Found a new plumber in our small town who lives practically next door.
2. Got my 6-quart Instant Pot pressure cooker and will try to use it tomorrow. Looks exciting since everything cooks so quickly.
3. Prozac (along with exercise) continues to seem to help my dog's separation anxiety and barking. And the generic is only $4 at Walmart.

I see you got bit after I ordered mine
Let me know how you like it.
What model, how much and from where?

I noticed I got my 8Qt duo plus ordered at $99.99 just before it went up to %178.98 only 2 days later. (reg $199.99 ca)
Mine is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Going to start by running the basic working and safety tests first then start with a dozen hard boiled eggs to see the time difference.

BTW: These machines use a silicone seal and not a hard rubber seal like the stove top ones. They are porous and absorb odors. Many people recommend getting extra seals that come in a few colors and use them for specific things. (Don't want your yogurt or other gentle flavored foods having a slight taste of the chili y'all love to make) I'm just waiting to see how mine works before ordering spare seals. Found some third party exact replacement seals at a reasonable price with good reviews on both .ca and .com. The brand name ones are quite expensive.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

I got the same as you except 2 quarts smaller (but for the same price basically):

Amazon.com: Instant Pot DUO Plus 60, 6 Qt 9-in-1 Multi- Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Yogurt Maker, Egg Cooker, Sauteer, Steamer, Warmer, and Sterilizer: Kitchen Dining

I got it for $79.99 (USD) on the same day you bought yours. It was in my shopping cart when you first posted about it since it was an Amazon deal. So your post helped me get over the fence. And I was getting tired of my current dinner routine.

The price is now $40 more.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Daniel: Let the tests begin

+1 - My Instant Pot Duo Plus arrived just before noon. 2 days earlier than initial projected date. Good thing I went to door after I heard doorbell ring. Purolator guy has left it at my door, rang doorbell and was gone before I got to the door. Good thing not living in Winnipeg any more it would probably have disappeared before I got to the door.

-1 - With the temperature still brutally cold all I could do was unbox it check it out and let it sit for a couple hours before I can test it out. Impatient to make sure it’s not a DOA

2 - Although made in China (pretty much everything affordable today is anyway) Everything seems of decent engineering and manufacturing. High quality packaging. User manual, recipe book and other documents are all printed on a good thickness and glossed so no rapid deterioration if actually used.

3 - I thought 8QT might be overkill and that the stainless steel pot/insert might be heavy or bulky to wash in the sink but after seeing it it’s just perfect size. The removable pot is roughly 7” high x 10” wide. Seems just thick enough to be resistant and efficient without taking years to heat up and easy to lift. At first I found it a bit light but the base has a decent thickness.

Bonus: My old, nice, already paid for many years ago, still looking brand new, tempered glass 10” pot cover fits perfectly on it. :)

Can’t wait to test it later.
