Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

You're welcome to come over to my place for beef chili with regular weevil rice. Still got 2 serves of that left.
I'm storing all my flour, sugar, lentils, rice in the fridge now and might move my pasta there too. The problem is that I don't have room in the freezer to freeze-kill any bugs that were in packets at time of purchase.

It's even funnier to me that of the TV shows that I've been watching recently, 2 of them have had episodes with bio-warfare involving bugs crawling out of people's mouths. Lucky I don't get put off food very easily

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Great time for a vegemite Aussie bug repellant/trap test science project :)

So here's my test setup suggestions based on if they can swim or not... feel free to use your MacGyver engineering skills if you want to alter it.

Fill a bowl or container right to the edge (so it's easy for them to get out) of whatever "critter of the moment" flavored food you have (weevils seem like an Aussie favorite )

If they can't swim:
Put food container in larger bowl filled with water
If they can swim
Some sticky tape or anything that will prevent them for heading elsewhere

Put one blob of vegemite on top in centre of the food

If they hate it they will run for cover and wind up in the water or get stuck in the sticky tape etc. Conclusion: Great bug repellant

if thet love it they will all head for it and get stuck in it. Take blob before they eat their way out, put in sealed bag and toss in trash. Conclusion great bug trap & food sanitizer

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Maybe I can sacrifice a small spoonful for science. Hopefully it will be a long time before I find more bugs to experiment on. :)

Bonus 1: Got a laugh from an email exchange.
Person A: "... Are you [body corporate committee members] happy to approve [a minor building work thing]?"
Me: "Yes I'd be happy to approve it."
Person B: "I am more than happy to approve it."

What I want to reply: "Well it's not a competition."

Bonus 2: If I can't sleep tonight I can blame the loud dragging-a-giant-metal-thing-over-the-road noise the road works guys at making, rather than my circling thoughts.

Edit: Now it sounds like a massive vacuum cleaner. They should've got a roomba. :coffee: (tea in cup)

** Too long to edit feel free to read, skim or simply ignore

1 - Called BellMTS and whined a bit. I actually buttered it on pretty thick but all in honesty. I made a living installing for MTS before going on disability and up until Bell bought them out things were somewhat OK. I'd put a call in and get an extra loyalty bonus quite regularly. They increased my low/high speed rural service last year and again this year for an extra 15%. I'm tired of subsidizing the BellMTS vs Shaw city price wars. Before stumblng on Roger's promo yersterday I was actually searching thinking about cutting the internet off and switching to Telus for 6GB for 55$ a month unlimited canada calling etc. The real difficulty if I do that is no more streaming and having to look at going to a lean linux OS since Win10 sucks data just running idle. It also means no more watching my Montreal Canadiens online and not on satellite TV either as doing the math 55$ a month to watch about 20 saturday night games and playoffs (if they make it there) via Satellite TV is getting rediculous and although I put shaw direct on seasonal break I'm considering cancelling it completely. The rest of the games are only available out of market through Rogers NHL French package online and as of last year that's another 63$ to watch about 60 games plus the internet cost. Of course you can pay 200$ plus tax for their full package but the Saturday TV games are blacked out anyway.

2 - 2nd lady I was transferred to I explained to her I was at the wall and was seriously looking at taking roger's offer and terminating my cell and internet services. My loyalty to MTS started dying since the name Bell was added to it. Before they bought MTS Manitoba had the greatest prices in Canada from all carriers because MTS was pushing the charge and they had no choice but to follow to compete. She finally offered me an extra 30$ loyalty discount for 6 months. for what I have now. So instead of 132 and change it'll be about 98 and change. So I accepted the offer for now.

3 - My Problem is Bell is matching the promo Rogers is offfering till the end of the month. Rogers promo runs till end of July. Telus is offering 10+5 till end of month. So I took the promo but that doesn't help much when the discount ends. And if the promos are out I missed out on that... So I have a month or so to decide what to do. Do I cut the internet and just use the cell data and forget about hockey completely to save some money or just blow it to watch the one thing I Loved. But the cost to watch is starting to klll the thrill of watching the games. I have an unlocked Iphone and am not on a term plan since Aug 2015 so I can switch carriers whenever I wish.

Weird, got carried away (AGAIN) sounds more like 3 confused rants... But if I stick with what I got I'm saving over 200$ over the next 6 months so technically a good positive.

Bonus: Caught a f***en spider again this time on the wall right beside my bed and terminated it promptly. :panic:

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Yikes i hate spiders glad you caught it. I think if the hockey games bring joy to you then get that plan ok you deserve that happiness it brings.

- My Problem is Bell...

I like that you know how to manipulate the system. Even Sasktel/Saskatchewan residents have slower rural usage once Bell stuck their nose in.

In fact, when one traveled West of Sask to Alberta, their phones used to automatically switch from Bell to Telus to Bell affiliates. But now, if the towers are owned by Bell and a customer was using Telus, their call drops and they don’t get service until they switch from Telus to Bell manually from their carrier settings.

And sometimes, if Bell stops working or is supposed to switch back to Telus, then people have to manually change the carrier setting to Telus. [emoji2356]

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. Had a pretty good day despite what was going on at work. Even finished investigating something for a task, and made a phone call without writing a script - just had an idea of what I needed to ask. Unfortunately I had two wrong numbers so had to deal with one not even ringing, and one not getting the right person at all... And then had to eventually email my question and let him call me back. But that's alright.
  2. Got pulled in to help with an easy document at the last minute, only had to spend 30mins on it and we got it out in time. The customer won't be happy with the result but if you ask a question about a long-term issue and request an immediate answer then all you get is "we can't answer that yet, we've been working on it" as your immediate answer.
  3. Finally gave myself permission to throw out the rest of the weevil rice after (mindfully) eating some more for dinner.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

 Way to go! I'm both surprise and totally impressed that you would even consider attempting a cold call! :)
Thanks, I think I was just in a "can't be bothered worrying about it" mood cause I considered writing it out but was like "oh c'mon I know what I need to say to kick this off and I've already been putting it off since Tuesday, just make the damn call and see how it goes" :eek:mg: Of course if it had gone badly that would've backfired on me, but it worked out alright when I didn't have to come up with anything after all

BONUS: Husband approved for minimally-invasive back surgery after 3+ years of conservative treatments. Surgery will be in August or so.

I’m glad you’re okay with that. I mean, sure, it was extra protein...

I have never knowingly given myself permission to eat bugs in my food. It’s been completely accidental. Had the freakiest looking beetle in a package of mixed salad from a grocery store. Had ants at the bottom of Alphabets cereal that I was eating dry. One of those gross worms or larvae in un bagged lettuce.

Wow! I hope this surgery helps! My husband has chronic back pain and recently they scanned and noticed a new herniation starting in his lower back.

Apparently it’s not “bad enough” to operate in, yet!

In the meantime, he’s supposed to do “fusion” back therapy, but he is still waiting for them to call. If he waits he will get someone with more experience instead of someone newer.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Can you say OC friggen D boys and girls.
Been awake for about... can’t remember I know it was early yesterday morning.

on the bright side :coffee: (that’s the side the window is on) I’ve seen the sun go up and down probably more times that’s i crawled out of bed

and i have viewed analyzed, distorted from best case to worst case just about every financial scenario and guess what... doesn’t ever reflect reality. Unless you create your budgets with a doomsday attitude then you have some chances of coming out ahead

i did have some fun making an excel workbook with formulas coming out of the ying yang with automatic cost of living increase (or lack of thanks to the Conservatives being in power now. We had under the previous govt an example of helping those on low incomes with rent. It was based at 75% of the fair market value for rentals minus 25% of your income. As soon as the “rob the poor to give to the rich” came to power they started by increasing the amount from 25 to 28 then 30% And this year’s treat is no cost Of living increase for single people on the program.

Hope they get out of power before they sell the pride of the province Manitoba hydro to their buddies of course like In Ontario be subsidized by rate increases.

Need sleep cant sleep. Between my ADHD Hyper Focus, my OCD and my takes me forever to get nothing really done I’m sick of this crap.

Went through my disability papers to see if my payments are at start or end of month since I was curious to see if when I hit 65 if I’ll get no money that month. Now the insanity of it is that’s in 2027. 8 years 3 friggen months from now. I think I need to take the PCs to the dump and sue Microsoft for my mental problems. :panic:

I’m so sorry you’re missing so much sleep! Maybe it’s all that :coffee: you keep drinking. [emoji6]

I’ve been there with the racing thoughts at night, and yeah it’s self-torture.

And I start longing for some kind of apocalypse where all the money and bureaucracy doesn’t matter anymore. I’m probably over-estimating my abilities (because ADHD) but something tells me I would be pretty good at survival tactics. It would be preferable to financial trouble and dealing with forms and receiving calls from people who need technical support. After the apocalypse: no more technology. lol Gonna have to use Ravens to deliver messages.

*sigh* I have an overactive imagination...
