Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

No I think we need to give Daniel's complaint the more serious consideration it merits. I'm still waffling on the issue personally. :coffee:

Well Boss, Sir, I even slept on it. You can waffle all you want. I stand by my decision and my mug of fully caffeinated Coffee. If you use your super administrator powers to overthrow my super moderator power decision I quit and you can be all alone trying to keep us clowns in line and the spammers off line

;) <<< See and note this little guy here though before you go biting on a hook that has no worm again :D

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

The reason you may be waffling:

Coffee and tomato share common gene repertoires

The best part of waking up is a tomato in your cup :coffee:

cc: @H011yHawkJ311yBean

You mean in my Red Rose Tea?

I don’t drink coffee.

However, since we’re discussing weird mashups of soup and drink...

I have had the following concoction before (and I could only guess how it was made from my Korean sister-in-law)... You can also add alcohol: I like Rum or maybe Lime-Flavoured Vodka. But I can’t drink more than one serving of it or I either instant migraine or within the next 12 hours or so.

1 Part:
White Grape Juice... Well, it looks like apple juice. It’s from green grapes instead of the purple grapes. This is used as an alternative to sugar.

1 Part:
Your pick of lime flavouring: Lime Margarita mix is what I use. Or mix in frozen Lime from Concentrate.

1 Part:
Steeped Green Tea (I love Stash tea, but I’m not snobby - I’ve used noname green tea). You can even use decaffeinated green tea, or white green tea. Whatevs...

————————

Optional: if you want to add more sweetness, add more White Grape Juice or sugar or whatever you like to sweeten things with.

I’ve also used Bar Lime: it makes the drink almost day-glow green. If you use it, that’s Lime Flavour AND Sweetner, so just use 2 parts Bar Lime and 1 Part Green Tea. Same if you use Mountain Dew, Sprite, etc...

I prefer it a bit tart, but not so tart that it turns your face inside out. I sometimes add a bit of lime juice.

Everyone I’ve ever given it to has raves about it. It was drank up dry at parties. Go ahead, make fun! More for me and my hubby...

All this because I was inspired by a drink my sister-in-law made!

J33lyBean, Don't pay no attention to Daniel's comment.
You can drink any kind of generic or no name tea you want.

As far as my taste buds are concerned all forms of tea taste like Grandpa's dirty socks soaked in boiling water. :coffee: <-- coffee in my cup ONLY!

3 Positive Things Part 5

1.) A really sweet neighbour of ours is always bringing over extra food and desserts from a restaurant she helps her daughter run... She had us come visit so we could check out her new deck and the newer landscaping and renovations...

I noticed this cute little dude...
c457c7c8ae4c3fd07abae3dec967cda1-1.jpg

This little concrete doggy’s eyes didn’t glow anymore, the concrete has some hairline cracks, and the paint was a bit faded.

[emoji3516][emoji3516][emoji3516]He also had a little chip at the bottom of his left ear. I painted it so you can barely tell it was chipped.

Our neighbour, Gerda, said she was given the little guy as a gift and she loved how cute it was so she didn’t have the heart to throw it out even if it was a bit rough and the solar lights stopped working.

I told her I suspected the battery needed changing or maybe the contacts for the battery had rusted. I’ve gotten other old solar lights to start working again.

She said I could hold onto it until Friday. But she didn’t text about it yesterday so I will message her today.

I found a battery at the drugstore (the battery didn’t have any discernible numbers or brand on it, so the cashier pushed it through on a little battery template to figure out which one would work)... And we found that it DID work!

Lo and behold, I fixed the eyes! The new battery works! I also fixed the skin by painting it. [emoji116][emoji116][emoji116]

I’m wondering if I should give it some kind of varnish or matte finishing so that it doesn’t peel... It was just acrylic paint, which can be Water proof as it dries into a plastic-like surface. But with the concrete under it, that surface may continue to suck more moisture out of the paint, especially in the hot sun... Or the concrete would also likely expand and retract a bit in freezing temperatures. And hot weather would make the paint more melty, whereas freezing weather would make it tighter. What I’m saying is that the paint may start peeling off.

Maybe I can convince her to take it inside in the winter...

Any ideas? I can look around at Canadian Tire.

2.) Also she wanted me to name the dog, for which I’m honoured to do. I take coming up with names very seriously. And also it’s fun!!!

It’s an eternal dog that is constantly watching and guarding Gerda. Gerda is German, so I thought of a few German names, too.

Ewing (German) = Eternal
Lux (German) = Light
Kleinerstein (German) = Little Rock
Rock (German) = Rock [emoji38]
Bewachen (German) = Guard
*I like that [emoji3516] one a lot because it almost sounds like “Be Watching’” lol*

Other names:
Brighteyes
Rocky or Petros (Greek)

Anyway, I am gonna play with this and run some past my husband, too.

3.) I’m loving my garden! But I have maybe enough photos in this post, yes? lol

(Edited for better grammar, clarification & fixed a wonky picture)

3 Positive Things Part 5

1.) Totally amazed at how much people can stretch out a joke from cake into soup into tea and then into a combination of all three.

This reminds me of when I was watching a Jim Gaffigan special... Where he’s going on about bacon...

Bacon on Vimeo

2.) Gerda loves her little solar-powered watch dog!

3.) I was thinking about cake *for SOME reason* and suddenly my husband asked if I could go to the store and buy some cake!!! He might be getting this by osmosis or something!!!

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Speaking of caffeine, stash, green and the puppy :coffee:

A good indicator of if you've had too much caffeine is if your eyes look like that doggy in the picture :yikes:

growing up in the 60's and 70's, if somebody mentioned the words green and stash together it was rolled and smoked not boiled :D

That puppy might be a female so why you guys giving "DAZEy" funny male names?
And with those eyes ot kind of looks like she got into somebody's stash of uppers.

Nice job fixing it up Holly!

EDIT: I rest my case on the incriminating evidence ...

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Back on subject:

1 - Nice to see you're feeling a bit better @gooblax even if it's only a bit.
Better is always better ;)

2 - With the cooler front arriving friday overnight also came some wind, rain and thunderstorms and rain yesterday. Whe I walked out to go to my car yesterday afternoon in the rain I saw that my passenger side front windows was open about 2" since Thusday afternoon and my first reaction after the rain was :panic: but to my surprise it was not wet inside I think the wind was probably blowing from the West which saved me from a wet mess in the car. Still not sure if anything decided to crawl in and call my car home but didn't see anything obvious.

3 - Went to check mail coming back and my driver's medical confirmation was finally here. After 15 years on the hook for regular medical physicals exams and forms (fees not covered although my doc cut the price tag signficantly on the last 2) It clearly states no further required in ALL CAPS. No problem with that

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1. The heat was bearable in Phoenix, especially after having a super-cold mocha frappe at Burger King.

2. The dogs weren't too anxious when we came back home, and the chickens were as cool as cucumbers with their misters and fans.

3. Drive home went by quick.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1.) Gerda said her solar-powered dog was male. And of the choices, she went with “Rocky” Or “Kleinerstein” which is German for “Little Rock.”

Gerda’s got an aunt who lives in Germany, but she herself isn’t fluent with the language. So I think she likes “Rocky” better.

lol Now she has positioned it on a little table on her front step facing our house. She said Rocky’s gonna keep his eye on us... lol I’m hoping as a neighbourhood watchdog kinda thing and not a “Chucky” kinda thing.

2.) Had an honest talk with my David the other day about finances and how my brain works. He seemed to take it in stride, more or less. I said that we’ve had so many bad things happening in the past, that when things are going fairly well, I expect something bad to happen. So it’s not that I don’t trust him to continue helping with the housecleaning and such. I mean it’s partially that. It’s that I am anxious about things that MIGHT happen, which also may NEVER happen. [emoji2356]

His mom is pitching in for him financially to help him on his end. I wish he would get more students or apply for disability or something so he becomes self-sufficient. He still feels like I am blaming him for the financial problems we have. I told him I don’t know how else to say it without him being defensive or upset. Even if I went back to work and received 30% more pay than I am now, we would still be losing money. Because he’s not self-sufficient.

I am hoping it will become more clear tomorrow when we see our financial advisor. I know David has some kind of mental block/denial/depression slowing him down. I tell him I understand this and I am being patient with things as best I can. We aren’t out of the woods yet, our journey has just begun. But we have the tools and we have some time. I’m not going back to work until David has done all he can to help, and that includes getting some kind of income from either more students to teach or from a steady income from SOMEWHERE!

3.) Loving my garden and this weather. 5188367055eccd4dbe4106df3ead7351-1.jpg

Please don't take any of this the wrong way. The pupose is to enlighten you and others but reality ain't pretty like your art or your garden. I aplogize in advance if it offends you or anyone else by it's content or it's lenght. These are life lessons I learned the really hard way have gone bankrupt twice by not expecting the worst but I have learned.

A - Past history and patterns bear no indicator of current or future outcome. except that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is equivalent to stuffing a slot machine waiting for the big win. It is actually and bluntly referred to as the definition of stupidity which does not mean that doing something stupid makes someone stupid but rather naive and unrealistic.

B - There is only one common undeniable and unavoidable repetitive pattern in life: Sh*t happens. People need to stop thiking maybe it won't. It's not if! it's What, when, how and expecially how long hard and bad will it be. The Only way to have a chance of getting though it is the scout's motto: Be prepared!

C - Financial hard times especially from previous mismanagement are a major cause of failed marriages and relationships. We need money to live. But when we don't understand basic economics we fall on hard times because we don't pay any attention to the possibilty of "B" ever happening to us.

D - You guys are lucky his mom is pitching in and should start realizing that you are grown adults and it's not her job to support you guys financially. You need to reel things in even if it hurts to be self suffcicent without relying on what future windfall or other from of income might bring.

E - The only way to not fall hard when the enevitable happens is to always budget living expenses on the lowest income earner or on the sole income earner's potential income. In this case it is your 30% loss on disability. Unless your expenses fall below this level you're only getting into a deeper hole.

F - A truly bonded union of 2 people is not like 2 roommates based on everyone pulling their expected weight of the expenses. It's based on the combined total of what the union brings and things are balanced accordingly. Doesn't matter if one brings in more, the same or none at all. it's what the household brings in.

G - Proof of "F" is that a married or common law couple are responsible financially to each other by law. Someone that is in a relationship is not entitled to welfare unless both are entitled to gettng welfare.

H - He has 2 options for income. Work if able or CPP disability if he meets the criteria medically and according to specific work over the past x # of years. If he is unable to get either of these then it's your choice to be the breadwinner or default on your relationship. That might seem like it would fix things but it won't. The debt is there it is common and the creditors will go after you if you are the only bread winner.

Do some googling on budgeting. (It isn't and doesn't need to be complicated). Especially when they teach how to see where you are blowing money without realiazing it by not keeping track of expenses and income. It is the only things that helps see the actual picture of not how much more money you need but where you need to stop spending money on things that often seem benign like eating out regularly and remove the sllly thought (if it is there) that you deserve it and are entitled to it. And don't think financial hard times is the plight of the poor hard working class. It's rampant through all levels of income. People spend more than they make convinced they will make up for it without any basic plan. Rich people fall hard too. Many professional athletes made millions and millions of money and lost it all. There was a story lately about an ex NHL player that was living in the streets of Kenora Ont. and he is but one on a very large group that had it all and have nothing left.

This may seem cold but it's actually something close to my heart. The only real thing I have left to offer is my help and advice and they are all based on the hard times I have personally gone through and how I managed to learn to live on a disability income that has not increased since 2010 and will even decrease slighyly at 60 and even more at 65.

P.S. I'm not a financial advisor in any shape or form. But math is math and personal financial analytic math is one thing I'm pretty good at. Since this is a psychology help forum and not a fnancial help forum (although financial heath can have a major impact on mental health) Any potential desire or request for possible guidance or tips by you or anyone else should and would be best to be via private messaging. especially since my responses can be long and annoying to many.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. Finished the weevil rice pudding.
  2. Got a new task today.
  3. Didn't feel very nervous about calling someone at work. (Still wrote a script though to get me into the first question.)
