Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Manitoba still had the law "Closed on Sunday" till a few years ago. For a While one if not 2 Walmarts in Winnipeg were open 24 hours a day. I'd go in the middle of the night. No traffic, less people in the store.

Steinbach also put a bylaw through that Mary-Jane was prohibited from sale in the City once the legalization went through. Of course you can imagine the drug dealers were really disapointed with that one  Pretty stupid reasoning; rather than control it somewhat and take the revenue they prefer to leave the distribution, money and the control to the gangsters.

BONUS: I'm off to bed. G'nite :)

1. Husband's new hearing aids are amazing (latest technology for free from the V.A.). He loves using them with his mobile phone.

2. Semester is almost over. (Two presentations to go.)

3. Weather is perfect for walking/hiking.

BONUS: Walmart is open today :D

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Yeah... my sleep cycle has been seriously messed up lately.

It seems anyone (including me) with a device that has a bright screen on it likes to stay up forever.

Or maybe you’re all like me and you just have ADHD, so you lack the connection between your Prefrontal Cortex and the rest of your Brain.

So you *know* you should sleep and *know* about the benefits of sleep; you’re probably *able* to sleep as soon as you hit the pillow because you’re so darn tired; and your *intent* is to get to sleep at a reasonable time...

But your lack of Dopamine/Endorphins (and hopefully a lack of Cortisol/Adrenaline at this hour of the night) makes it almost impossible for the Prefrontal Cortex to get you to carry out the task of getting your butt to bed. And you ARE getting Dopamine from doing whatever you’re doing with/on those computers...

Well, that’s what I learned from my Adult ADHD Coach...

That's not at all the scenario for me. I feel sleepy. I go to bed. Usually I fall asleep reasonably quickly. But then an hour or two later, I'm awake again. Still tired but getting back to sleep isn't happening.

Yup and throw in Hyper Focus, stubbornness, no spouse to ream you out about it and what not into the mixand you have a recipe for that. :D

lol

Yeah, I was showing off my new ADHD knowledge, just wondering if either of you were having sleep issues like I did. Which is a weird thing to do, I guess. I wasn’t sure if that was what was going on with you two. So thank you for clarifying, so now I know how your sleep is affected. I’m sorry you’re going through that.

Meditation/relaxation exercises & journaling sort of worked for me... Hit and miss. But I didn’t know about the ADHD, of course. lol Since my psychiatrist prescribed me antidepressants & anti-anxiety meds, I sleep just fine.

I used to sleep for about 10 hours each night. Lately I’ve been able to stay awake until 4 am and then sleep in until 10-10:30am. Which is about 6 hours. But I can’t seem to fit any down time into my day.

Well. Hopefully that changes. My next homework is to try and keep track of chunks of time and just jot down what I do in a day... Then I hope to get an idea of how long a task takes: because if you don’t know how long a task is, how can you put that task into a schedule? lol

Anyway, I’m going off on another tangent. I hope you both will find some relief and be able to sleep through the night. Unless you’re fine with having broken sleep.

I’m fascinated by this: Humans Used to Sleep in Two Shifts, And Maybe We Should Do It Again

And this:
The myth of the eight-hour sleep - BBC News

Just a thought: if one decided one’s “style” of sleeping wasn’t broken, but just a Hobbit’s version of a regular evening (Hobbits had 1st breakfast and 2nd breakfast) where you have “First Sleep” and “Second Sleep...” One night at least be at peace and not worry about it... And maybe sleep better? lol

Aha! So YOU have what I have! lol It takes a lot of strategy and will power but I think I’m getting a little bit better at going to bed earlier.

My ADHD coach (who also has ADHD, so I know she knows where I’M coming from!) has seen me twice.

Had some light bulb moments. For example, I never thought of my dog as a way for me to get Dopamine. lol

  1. Someone was back from holidays and brought in durian candy. Has anyone ever tried durian fruit before? If not I won't spoil the surprise. ;)
  2. Takeaway food night because cousin will be here.
  3. My totally-not-at-all-immature package of nerf darts arrived :D

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/why-does-the-durian-fruit-smell-so-terrible-149205532

Food writer Richard Sterling has written "its odor is best described as…turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away."

How to Love Durian on Your First Bite (Or Increase Your Chances)

Durian is a strange combination of savory, sweet, and creamy all at once. A durian is supposed to have subtle hints of chives mixed with powdered sugar. It's supposed to taste like diced garlic and caramel poured into whipped cream.

Durian stinks so badly that it's banned from hotels and mass transit in parts of Southeast Asia, yet it's regarded by some as a delicacy.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Can confirm, it is weird just as good as it sounds. ;)
This was my second time eating durian candy. The first was a few years ago, chocolate-covered. Today's was durian-coconut flavoured.
It hasn't improved in taste since last time. I've never actually seen/had the fruit though.

But at least I didn't spit it out like some of the guys haha. The team lead was too scared to even try it.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

1 - Went to bed a bit past 10 last night and slept through the night till a bit past 6 this morning :)
Ok sure, I took 2 mg of clonazepam, and yes, it's a crutch for many things but why try and walk on a broken leg when that's what crutches are made for. And it's also one of my Tourette meds. Don't think I'd have made it this far without it. The shrink years ago when I got my GP to prescribe it didn't want me on it because of the fact it's like "alcohol in a pill" (his saying) and was convinced that it would make the transition from suicidal thoughts to actual attemps highly likely. I think we all can confirm that it's been the oposite in my case. Everybody's different and reacts differently to different meds. On the suicidal thoughts it happens more when I'm in overwhelmed and devastated and in panic mode. In my case the anxiety decreases and the panic gets less worrysome even when all seems lost. My GP's main fear was me getting hooked on them since it is very addictive and tolerance builds up quite rapidly but I can say that I need them in certain cases and take a lot less than prescribed. So in a nutshell helped me sleep last night and keeps my anxiety down with the added bonus of keeping my TS tics pretty much in check.

2 - Going to Winnipeg to have lunch with my bud today. He thought waiting till the 27th when I go in for my appointments was too far away when we texted last week. I said: "You make it sound like it's important?" He said: "Nothing important, I just miss being abused by you" Funny guy

3 - His turn to pay lunch anyway

Bonus: Found about 4$ of actual paper Canadian Tire Money and have about 14$ in "electronic" CDN Tire money (which being on my phone makes it easier to know where it is) so I'll gas up the car on my way back rather than waiting till the 27th when the car is almost empty. That way I should be good till June and my monhly gas out expenses will seem to be way under budget this month. :)

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Quite an awesome day today! (Post is long but worth it... was that or write 3 posts LOL)

1 - had a great time with bud at lunch although the buffet was a little on the empty side and the won ton soup was falling apart in the pot but still good. Thought I might be a few minutes late and got there 1 minute early LOL

2 - coming out I saw this... to avoid double posting I'll post the link to the other post In Anti-Canadian Humor:
https://forum.psychlinks.ca/showthr...g-With-Us-Not-At-Us)-Pt-5&p=254819#post254819

3 - Decided to go to Canadian Tire to gas up before Giant Tiger and grab a Timmies heading out instead of beforehand (all in same strip mall)
  • They don't take CDN TIRE money at their Gas+ stations, they only give it.
  • Got begged by a guy outside to get a CDN TIRE credit card. Didn't cave in though.
  • He gave me a scratch'n "maybe win something" card and so I sratched it and won a 591ml Pepsi.
  • Free Pepsi and saved $2.15 since I didn't go to Timmies first and no longer had a need to!

BONUS: Went to Giant tiger. Was looking at the weekly flyer at the front door (sales start on Wednesday. Main reason why I told bud we could have lunch today) The only thing I saw that was worth it was a pack of 48 AA batteries for $5.99 and I need some since my rechargeables are too big for my battery powered toothbrush and 2 computer mice I have. There were 2 fridges full of fresh Granny's grain fed chicken thighs and drumsticks right at the entrance, I'm guessing left over from last weeks sale. They were originally $7.99 on sale for $5.99. Not paying 6 bucks a kilo for chicken legs even if it's fresh and grain fed. (I'm cheap and Granny's poultry is high end top quality and expensive stuff. I never even bother looking at it since it's not in my income bracket range why bother? LOL)

Decided I wasn't in the mood to go through the store to get a pack of batteries and was turning around to leave as this lady comes and pulls off the sales stickers and put new $3.97 stickers in their place. I said something and she replied "have to get em out of here before they go bad." I LOVE GIANT TIGER'S THINKNG OF WASTE NOT! So I grab 4 packs of Drumsticks and 6 of Thighs. (they vary in weight around 1kg for the drumsticks and about 1.3kg for the things... Now I'm thinking; freezers are full already... where the hell am I going to fit this? To heck with it, I'll just Worry about that once I get home... Might as well go through the isles quickly since I'm there... dang.., they have boxes of 20 of the real POGO's (Corn dogs but the best brand) at $6.99. I've never seen them under 10$ on sale in years and haven't seen them on sale, hence haven't had any, in quite a while... OK take 2 boxes...

DOUBLE BONUS: Get home fun starts: Pulled out a loaf of bread that made a bit of room and need to make spaghetti sauce take out the big pack of ground beef. Reoeganize both freezers, it was down to onlt 1 box would not fit so I put a pack of chicken in the fridge and will have some fish sticks for supper and that'll make room for the lone pack of chicken... DONE! Since a picture's worth a thousand words here 5,000 words :D

P.S. Iust realized, I went there on a full stomach right after eating chinese food! Can you imagine the trouble I would be in if I had gone on an empty stomach? I'd probably be shopping for another freezer RUSH!

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

  1. Got my flu shot and it only took about 2 minutes including waiting in line. It took longer walking over to the room than it did inside it.
  2. Got a lollypop from the vaccination lady.
  3. Finally owned up to a screwup (thinking I could repair something and avoiding buying a new part because I don't understand the supply system here and I didn't want to talk to anyone... But I discovered today that I couldn't really repair it... now that it's probably too late to order a new part in time). At least I've raised the issue now that I've given up trying to work around it. Hopefully there's still time to do something about it.

Re: 3 Positive Things Part 5

Bonus - might be all good about that part. There's apparently one in the warehouse (I don't know how to read the supply system screenshots they always send with undecipherable codes).
