1. I is back
-1. I is back ;)

1 I traded in my old 2000 Ford Focus in September
2 Got $1120 for it when you take into account here trade-ins amount is deducted from the price before taxes (12%) Gave it in with only the old rusted steelies and winter boots. And I threw in the old spare steel rims I had for it. Easier than getting rid of them. So I still have a nice set of wheels I can get some more bread from.

3 Although my budget took a blow and insurance will be more than double it was replaced by this little lady (pic below). Deal was signed on my b-day :) but had to wait a week for the recalls to be done like the famous air-bag recall.

2013 Toyota Avalon Limited w/ Premium package (+ bunch of extras)
Toyota's flagship sedan and the highest edition available in Canada.

And to boot it's the year they switched from the Camry base to the Lexus base and gave it a total redesign and more modern look to attract younger buyers. V6 6 speed automatic with race car style paddle shifters behind steering wheel for when you want to have fun (or get speeding tickets) ECO/NORMAL/SPORT driving modes. 0 to 60mph in under 7 secs. It can boot! And as good if not better fuel economy than my Focus.

Just a couple of my favorite options: Electric power steering. Radar cruise control. If car slows down in front so does mine. Auto darkening rear and even side view mirrors. Leather ventilated seats with toast or freeze your buns option. And the seats get warm fast! Great option when you live in deep freeze territory.

Traded-in by original owner. Clean title. a bit under 172K km (more or less 107K miles for Daniel) Which is like 20K on a Ford :)
Original owner was a Canadian Snow bird. Actually in Daniel's State (Carfax report shows basic service done in Florence, AZ) I'm guessing this will be it's 1st winter in Canada.

Yes finally! :D I'd got it to riding 3 split days a week (To work Monday, home Tuesday, to work Wednesday, home Thursday, both ways on Friday) but got stuck there for a long time especially when my work went to alternate weeks working from home earlier in the year. As soon as I was allowed back in the office full time I managed to progress to 4 days (both to/from work), which I persisted with for maybe 2 or 3 weeks before bumping it up to 5. I was really having to pay attention to what muscles I used on the 'bad leg' while riding because there's a very obvious difference between legs if I'm paying attention. On rides where I didn't pay as much attention, I'd typically end up with a sore knee and then start wondering if it'd be ok to ride the following day. I don't have to pay quite as much attention now and don't have that happen as regularly. It's been really good getting the regular exercise again, although I'm yet to see any waistline-related improvements.

I aaaaalmost bought one for myself actually. ;) But ended up getting it for my parents' xmas present in case I can't visit this year. Otherwise I might have video evidence haha

1 - Anyone interested in observing human nature at it's "natural best"
Peek at the news/tweets/brain farts of the day and then watch a couple stocks and see how we are less in need of therapy then the average person.

2 - When Covid and the panic selling started in March I ran to open a TFSA (For non Canadians: In A Tax Free savings Account you can save, buy stocks and bonds and except for some rules like a max contribution and not using it for active business like trading. All earnings or losses are non taxable and losses can't be written off and do not affect any income tested benefits you are entitled to)

Everyone knows I love a great bargain. And that I'm a contrarian thinker. So on Monday March 23rd when my account and deposit were active and ready to trade people went crazy in a panic. I never really had time to analyze much things happened so fast. So I checked companies I knew and saw they were going for pennies on the dollar that had a chance to survive and bought some of this and some of that. Figuring some day it might slowly return to a decent price. At one point I realized I was holding stock in 3 flying rocks and there was this small oil sector company I picked up for 30 cents a share for fun. win some lose some. Started with the mindset i might lose all I invested. There's lots of different fish personalities and I'm normally a salmon. Well folks i did not need to swim upstream. I stayed parked in the middle and bought from them on the way down in a FOLE panic (fear of losing everything) and sold to them when they were headed back up on the FOMO frenzy (Fear of missing out). Now the next day that 30 cents stock was bid and ask over 50% what I paid for before the market even opened. One stock I bought and sold 3 times it pays a monthly dividend they never let me hold onto it long enough to collect one single dividend. Then in July I knew there were too many transactions being triggered by my OCD and being paranoid and honest I was afraid the CRA would say I'm actively trading. And was also sure my insurer would consider it income. But it was more the fun of it all as I was sure I wouldn't get to keep much after my insurer took my winnings. So I cashed in my chips and called my insurer to find out how I go about declaring the gains. Low and behold she tells me saving etc or stock are not considered as income and all mine to keep. Now to avoid active trading and getting myself caught in a trap explaining to the tax man my disorders and people's stupidity i loaded up and withdrew to have some investments but not enough wiggle room to get caught in the trap or I would (no joking) made a killing from July to now. Since then I managed to hold onto one stock for 3 dividends and it might be gone soon as it's getting vert close to my sell price since I know once the mad climb stops I can probably pick it up when the year end selloff typically happens. For those that have heard of warren Buffet "The oracle of Omaha" I stop and his Buy low sell high. The rest screw it. I ain't marrying it. Everything is for sale at the right price.

3 - The little guppies aiming to beat the markets as sharks. Well I won't say more than "Thank you for your extremely generous contribution towards the purchase of my Avalon"

I used to know a guy who followed the stock markets religiously. He taped the stock market shows like the McNeil-Lehrer Report from TV while he was away at work or whatever and watched them to get trends every day after work.

He spend literally hours every week on this hobby and this went on for literally years.

I finally asked him whether he made any money long term with all that work. He said he broke even.

Now mind you, he was happy with breaking even. It was one of his primary interests in life and really was a hobby, not his main income. And by breaking even after all the work he put in he considered that a win.

I never could understand that. My takeaway was if he couldn't make any money after all the work and study he put in, following the experts' advice, and monitoring the ups and downs of his holdings every single day of the year... well, it was basically a mug's game.

I also had a friend who was loaded with Northern Telecom when it was over 100$ and tried to convince me but I was not interested. Never was. But COVID 19 became a once in a lifetime event. I had money saved and it was like taking candy from a baby. Well not really cause the baby was handing it to me. You know me enough to know why we 3 dudes here have disagreements at times I don't (never have, never will) think like everyone else.

Today with instant ask and bid instantly available as people watch what's going up to get on board I'm watching what Peter's stock they are dumping to Buy Paul's stock. The only thing I observe is the volume what it's been and what it's really worth. And I don't listen to advice. I follow and observe human behavior. When volume is 2 to5 times normal i'm no longer in passive mode. I'm like a guard dog with his ears up.

Since it's a private thing I'll text you when the time is right. at the latest when the year closes. but possibly way earlier.

Oh that wasn't meant as a criticism of you, @GaryQ. Just reminiscing about an old friend (I haven't seen or talked to him in over 10 years; he was also several years older than me and I don't even know if he's still alive) and all the work he put in. It convinced me because I knew I was not interested in putting that amount of effort into something that ultimately was of no interest to me - I mean economics and the stock market - I like making money but that just seemed to me to be too much work and in his case in the end after years of doing this he was no further ahead.

1 - Well I cashed in my chips (stock) before the slide down begins today. if it drops to my liking or something else I buy if not I walk away winning.

2 - If some remember we have no garages for our building and I rented from 2 different people. Was in one since last sept. Then they decided to move one shed and get rid of another and build a workshop and an attached 2 bay semi heated garage and right by the back door since they were already running tubing in the slab would have caused more problems not heating the whole slab. So caretaker got one bay and surprisingly me gets the other. Probably because most already find $35S for a garage spot expensive and they want 60$/month. I jumped I was paying 2 bucks less to park outside in Winnipeg. So technically come Dec 1st I have MY own garage spot and only 2 of us and not at the wim and Mercy of anyone and definitely worth the extra bucks. It's only 2 open bays so not 4 and it's part of my lease. Like my suite mine till I die, move or decide I don't need or want. So nobody can take it from me without getting served a complaint at the rental board.

Note about #2 Seriously "Trust Me" Yeah right! Seen enough backsliding stuff here. I want it in writing as an amendment to my lease. So for a month I been trying to get it in writing. So today I finally throw a fit when I found out they advised the guy I'm renting from without my permission or knowledge that he can rent to someone else. So Let's say my "had enough" meter started pushing politely that I wanted it in writing as promised TODAY. Then I finally get a page from my original lease from 2018 with some scribbling on the side. So I said get and use the same form as they use every year and add the garage. So I said I'll send you mu last one and a copy with what to change and add. Like seriously. Makes you wonder how people can make it to the toilet on their own. So still no ammended lease but I have enough texts and the scrtibbles and emails if I have to get this resolved by the rental board. But I'm sure that won't be necessary I just get triggered when people don't know what they are doing and everyone here flies by the seat of their pants.

3 - I didn't verbally or physically assault anyone today. Although a verbal reaming would have felt really good. I was a good boy and held back.

BONUS: Scanned my last rent increase form and made a copy and made all the corrections with circles and arrows and indoor parking circled and other made sure to add HEATED GARAGE every single detail and scanned it and emailed her what would be the best option form. And she filled it out to perfection. That way someone can't try and pull a fast one on me one day and switch me to the old one the board owns. There's only 2 heated garage spots and that's the ones they're building.

There's some sneaky "terminal sphicters" around here. So called "Christians" it's love they neighbor not screw thy neighbor the Bible teaches. I like the half verse ones. "Do onto others" and the part after that says "as you wish done onto you" don't apply to them.

P.S. David Baxter your spellun chicker don't recogmize "SPHINCTER"

1. Inadvertently chased some plovers on my bike. ;) Not my fault that they were on the side of the road then chose to flee in the direction of the road rather than off to the wide grass strip beside them. I even pulled out to the middle of the lane (after checking for cars) to give them room but apparently they wanted to be chased.
2. Someone else had a problem with the aircon not working correctly, and discussed it with the dude who keeps changing it to the 'heat' setting... not knowing that he was discussing it with the culprit. Hopefully the culprit felt a bit embarrassed enough to stop messing with the heat setting and eventually learn that putting it on the heat setting doesn't mean that it cools unless it's above the temperature setting. I dunno what he's thinking but it's annoying.
3. Trying to find something engaging-enough but still productive to do at work today. I really, really don't want to be here. I have to get help with my task from people who aren't in today (shop floor guys who can cut up a part for me to inspect... Hoping that they can do it for me without having to raise paperwork). I just got bits of banana all over the floor because they took away desk bins in favour of a communal bin to save on facility costs, and my banana had lots of side strings I couldn't keep contained. I don't want to work on my report even though it's pretty urgent that I do so. Things just suck today. At least it's Friday and the boss won't be in the office so I can leave early without having to explain myself once I've sorted out the main problems in the report.
